For young people, not believing in God can create confusion. As the question goes “If you don’t believe in God, then what do you believe in?” It is not necessary to believe in God to behave in a good way, although the opposite view is held by many people around the world. The American Humanists Association motto is “Good without God” but how do you explain that to young humanists when their peers are of a religious upbringing?
The Italian Union of Rationalist Atheists and Agnostics (UAAR) youth section have published a short illustrated book to show teenagers that humanism is a valid and ethical alternative to religion.
Good without God: an illustrated guide to humanism is available in english to download for free (PDF 5Mb) . Further background to this article can be found on the IHEU website.
