Mounting persecution of the non-religious around the world

Last year, Humanists International published a report which showed evidence that humanists and atheists are being targeted for their rejection of religion and the promotion of core humanist values (e.g. human rights, secularism, critical thinking, and democracy).  Countries reported on included Sri Lanka, Colombia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Nigeria, Indonesia and India.  They were shown to have used an array of tactics to supress rights to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion or the right to freedom of expression, association and assembly.

Women’s rights, particularly in regards to abortion, are still hindered by religious based laws rather than public health, there are reports of people being shot and killed for daring to speak out against belief systems and the existence of citizens of no faith is not acknowledged in some countries.
