Northern Ireland Humanists celebrated their 5000th legally recognised humanist marriage, since its introduction in 2018 – a beautiful ceremony between Belfast-based Aimee Brown and Stewart Clawson, led by celebrant Jean Barrett Quinn.
This milestone follows the publication late last year of the General Register Office’s 2024 annual report that confirmed that in that year there were more humanist marriages than religious marriages conducted by the three big Protestant churches. This marks a significant change in the demographics of Northern Ireland, with 25% now claiming to have no religion, according to a 2024 Northern Ireland Life and Times Survey
