About the Speaker

John is an Irish trade unionist and the current General Secretary of the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO), a role he has held since 2019. A native of the Donegal Gaeltacht, he has dedicated more than three decades to education and union activism.

He has been an INTO activist for over 30 years, serving as a staff representative, branch, and district chairman, and as a member of the union’s Central Executive Committee since 2004.

John spent 14 years as a teacher, followed by 18 years as a principal of a national school. His extensive experience at classroom and leadership level informs his approach, underpinning a commitment to advocating for teachers and strengthening Ireland’s education system.
