Humanism is a joyful and ethical life-stance which places human values at the centre of its philosophy. It encourages people to think for themselves and to care for others, and it places a strong emphasis on family and community. Its basic premise is that we are rational beings who possess the capacity for being altruistic, honest, kind and just. Humanists contend that these qualities are integral to our deepest humanity. The fundamental attitudes of humanism are respect, tolerance, and acceptance of others, whatever their class, colour or creed.
