Humanism is the philosophy that freed me from the fearsome tyranny and judgement of religion - specifically the Abrahamic god. It clearly indicated that a secular society that had the welfare of all citizens as its priority would make for a better world for all people. Having been raised in the RC tradition I became an atheist at age 17 after studying Shelley's lyric poem 'Prometheus Unbound' and for the past 55 years have lived very happily espousing Secular Humanism.
